Alexander Makovski was born in Vladivostok, Russia.
In 1919, he volunteered to join the Red Army Navy and participated in military operations in the Volga and Caspian Sea. He wrote books about seafaring. He regularly appeared in the central press with his essays and stories. He moved to cinema in 1924. He shot various feature and documentary films at the Baku studio (1927-1933) and the Ashgabat film studio (1934-1940). Feature films were shot at the Kiev film studio based on his scripts, and animated films were shot at the Soyuzmultfilm studio.
Alexander Makovski died in 1980.
