Alexander Litvinov was born in Baku.

He studied at the Medical Faculty of Baku State University (1919-1920).

He began working in the cinema field in 1918 as a screenwriter, assistant director, assistant, and actor in episodic roles. He worked as the head of the AFKI (1920-1922), assistant director and head of the film studio at the “Sevzapkino” film factory (1921-1923), director and head of the film studio at the “Azdovletkino” film factory (1923-1926), director of the Moscow film factory “Sovkino” (1927-1937), director of the Siberian Scientific Educational and Technical Film Studio “Sibtekhfilm” (1938-1948), director of the Sverdlovsk documentary film studio (1948-1957). He was the first secretary of the Sverdlovsk branch of the Union of Soviet Cinematographers (1958-1967).

Honored Artist of Russia (1959) Alexander Litvinov died in 1977 in Sverdlovsk.
