Vamig Mammadaliyev was born in the Kurdakhani settlement of Baku.

He received his primary music education in the tar club of the village club in the class of Dardayil Aydemirov. After some time, in 1963, he created the tar club in the Kurdakhani village club and later the “Bahar” folk instrument ensemble, where he worked as an instructor, artistic director and manager (1967–1972). He received higher education in tar at the Asef Zeynalli Baku Musical Technical College (1972-1976), and the Azerbaijan State Conservatory (1980-1985).

He worked as a specialist teacher in tar at the Cultural Education Technical College (1971-1993), and as a senior teacher and associate professor at the Baku Music Academy (1988-2001). Since 2001, he has been the dean of the faculty of musical art at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. He teaches at the Azerbaijan National Conservatory. In 1985, the All-Union “Melodia” company recorded and published in large quantities mughams of Kharic Segah and Rahab performed by him. In 1989, he was awarded 1st place at the “Falun Folkmusic Festival” folklore festival held in Sweden. In 1994, the French “Maison Dе’s Cultures Du Monde” company recorded mughams of Neva and Rahab performed by him.

He is a professor, People’s Artist (2018).

Tarzan Vamig Mammadaliyev is the father of director, producer Igbal Mammadaliyev, director Salam Mammadaliyev and lighting designer Gurban Mammadaliyev.
