Sharif Agayar (Sharif Agayarov) was born in the village of Agbulag, Lachin. He studied at the Faculty of History and Philology of the Shusha branch of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (1992-1997).

For a while, he worked as a teacher at the Agdam Agricultural Technical School operating in Agjabedi. In 1998, he came to Baku and began working as a correspondent in the culture department of the “Panarama” newspaper. He worked as a culture journalist in the “Yeni Azerbaijan” newspaper (2000-2003), editor-in-chief of the “Kino+” newspaper (2003-2008), consultant in the Publishing, Advertising and Information Department of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (2008-2013), and editor-in-chief of the Kulis.az culture portal (2017-2021).

In 1998, he was awarded the “Khalil Rza Ulutürk” award established by the Azerbaijan Writers' Union and the Independent Trade Union of Cultural Workers, and in 2003, he was awarded the “Youth Award” by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism for his achievements in the field of literature. That year, he was the winner of the I Prose N internet competition held for the first time by the YeniSI Center for Literature and Art Manifestations. In 2015, he was awarded the “Rafig Tagi Award” of the Dalga Youth Organization for his educational activities and active creativity. In 2019, he was selected as the “Literary Person of the Year” by the Azerbaijan Creativity Foundation. That year, he was the winner of the “Golden Word” Literary Award established by the Ministry of Culture in the prose nomination for his novel “The City After Dreams”.

The books "Desert Masnavi" (2003), "Epic of a Bricklayer" (2010), "Aftafalı antrakt" (2010), "Harami" (2011), "Pozug fotograflar" (2013), "Khanım T." (2013), "Gulustan" (2015), "The City After Dreams" (2017), "Ag gol" (2018), "The Silence of the Bees" (2020), "The City After Dreams" (in French) (2020) have been published.

He was awarded the "Progress" (Taraggi) medal (2020).
