Samad Mardanov (Samad Mardani) was born in Tbilisi.
He was the first Azerbaijani film director to graduate from the Directing Department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1935). He was a student of Sergei Eisenstein.
For a while he taught at the Cinema Department of the Baku Theater Technical School (1937-1938).
Samad Mardanov died in 1939.
Director Samad Mardanov is the brother of actor Mustafa Mardanov.
