Safa Gahramanov was born in the Minakhorlu village of Aghjabadi.

He studied at the Medical Technical School, the Singing Department of the Asaf Zeynalli Secondary Specialized Music School (1974), and the Faculty of Cultural and Educational Work of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1990).

In 1970, he won a competition for the rhythmic mugham "Mansuriyya" he sang at the "Golden Autumn" mugham festival and received a ticket to the final concert held at the Philharmonic. After this performance, Ahmad Bakikhanov invited him to his ensemble. In 1975, for the first time as a professional singer, he performed "Mirza Huseyn Segah" on television with the Folk Instruments Ensemble led by Ahsen Dadashov. Since 1991, he has worked at the Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1991, he performed the role of Majnun in the opera "Leyli and Majnun" for the first time.

He was engaged in pedagogical activities, taught in the mugham class at the Adil Isgandarov Palace of Culture (1999-2008), and at the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts.

Honored Artist (2000), People's Artist (2006) Safa Gahramanov died in 2008.
