Refig Zeka Khandan

Refig Zeka Khandan was born in Baku.

He studied at Azerbaijan State University.

His first book of poems, “Çağlayan,” was published in 1962. He wrote the texts for the musical comedies “Akhırı yaşı olar” (1968), “Mênim azız biyaciyim” (1970), and is the author of the texts for the operas “Fuzuli” and “Söyüdler ağlamaz.” In the 80s and 90s of the last century, he played an important role in the development of Azerbaijani-Turkish literary relations. In those years, he widely covered Azerbaijani literature in the pages of the Turkish press, and published articles about Azerbaijani poets and writers in Turkish magazines such as “SIZE” and “Tanıtım.” He was a professor at the Azerbaijan Academy of Arts and gave lectures on aesthetics.

Refig Zeka Khandan, a laureate of the State Prize, Honored Artist (1989), died in 1999.
