Oktay Mir-Gasim

Oktay Mir-Gasim (Ogtay Mirgasimov / Ogtay Mirgasim / Ogtay Mir-Gasimov) was born in Baku.
He studied at the Directing Faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1963-1968).
His first 4-minute film "Roads" in 1965 won first place at the festival held at the Institute. He began his career as an assistant director at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio in 1962 and continued his work after the institute. His films have received awards at All-Union festivals. He played the role of Bekmurad in the Kazakh film "Promised Lands" (2010, directed by Slambek Taukel). He worked as the general director of the "Azerkinovideo" Production Association (1993-2001). He is currently the head of the "Yeni Film" Creative Association. He teaches at the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art. He was awarded the Jafar Jabbarli Prize (2015). He is a laureate of the People's Artist (2000), "Shohret" (2003), "Sharaf" (2018) and "Istiglal" (2023) orders. He was awarded the National Cinema Award of the Union of Cinematographers of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2008).
Director Oktay Mir-Gasim is the father of actress Ayan Mirgasimova.
