Mustafa Mustafayev was born in Baku.

He studied at the Azim Azimzade Art School (1993-1995), the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, and the Azerbaijan State Art School (2001).

He worked as a creative director at Qala Group (2011-2014), and as a chief artist at the Azerbaijan State Sumgayit Drama Theater (2015-2018). Since 2018, he has been the chief artist of the Young Spectators Theater.

Artist Mustafa Mustafayev is the son of artist Vagif Mustafayev and actress Almaz Mustafayeva.
