Hilal Baydarov was born in Zagatala.
He won the republican championships in mathematics twice while in high school. He led the Azerbaijani team at the 2011 Informatics Olympiad. He studied computer science at the Middle East Technical University in Turkey and Bela Tarr's film courses at the Sarajevo Film Academy.
His films have won awards at international festivals.
