Hajagha Abbasov (Hajiagha Abbasov) was born in the village of Mashtaga in Baku.

He received a pedagogical education in Petrovsk-Port (now Makhachkala) (1906-1909).

While studying there, he created a theater group consisting of Azerbaijanis and opened a theater in Teymurkhanshura (later Bunyaksk) with that troupe. After completing his education, he returned to Baku and taught in the village of Balakhani with Mirza Alakbar Sabir. He was an active member of the “Muslim Artists Society”, “Nijat”, “Hamiyyat” theater troupes. Later, he acted in the theater troupe of the “Safa” society, “Zulfugar bey and Uzeyir bey Hajibeyov brothers’ management”. Since 1920, he has worked at the Drama Theater. Together with Mirzaga Aliyev, in 1921, they created the Baku Turkish Free Criticism and Propaganda Theater, of which he himself was the director. In 1925, he was appointed director of the Academic Theater (1925-1929). He worked as director of the Baku Theater Technical School (1929-1937), head of the Theater Department of the Azerbaijan Art Department, etc. He wrote small plays and is the author of the book "My Memories". In 1932, his name was inscribed in the history of theater as the first actor to be awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of Azerbaijan. Due to persecution during the years of repression, he lived in Siberia, Moscow, and the Central Asian republics for a while (1937-1957). Although he occasionally visited his hometown, he was able to return in 1957.

People's Artist (1932) Hajagha Abbasov died in 1975. He was buried in the II Alley of Honor.
