Gafar Novruzlu was born in the Zangezur district of Western Azerbaijan.
He studied at the Baku Music College.
Until 1994, he worked in the "Dastan" and "Irs" folklore ensembles, and then began to act. Since 1997, he has been performing as Kosa, one of the main characters in Novruz festivities. In 1997-2011, he played the role of Kosa at state events.
