Davud Imanov was born in the Akmola region of Kazakhstan. His family was acquitted in 1957 and returned to Azerbaijan and settled in Sumgayit.

He studied at the Directing Department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1979-1984).

Since 1962, he has been an active participant in amateur performances at the Sumgayit House of Culture. Since 1967, he has worked as a director and staged performances. He also worked as a reporter. The documentary film "Profession - Actress" (1981), which he made as a coursework, caused a stir in Moscow. He made documentary films as a film director at the "Azerbaijanfilm" film studio (1984-1994). He worked as the director of the Azerbaijani representation of the "Mir" Interstate Television Company (1995-2002).

Davud Imanov died in 2002.
