Baba Veziroghlu

Baba Veziroghlu (Baba Masimov) was born in the village of Mollaisagli, Ismayilli region.

He studied at the Faculty of Journalism of Azerbaijan State University (1972-1977), and at the M. Gorky Literary Institute in Moscow (1987, prose department).

He worked as a literary worker at the headquarters of the Central Committee of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union, an instructor at the fiction promotion bureau of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (1979), a consultant at the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (1979-1991), a correspondent at the "Azerbaijani Youth" newspaper, editor-in-chief of the "Molla Nasreddin" magazine (1989), a responsible secretary at the "Yurd" magazine (1993-1994), deputy editor-in-chief of the "Istedad" magazine (1994), a member of the Board of Directors of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union (1991), editor-in-chief at Azerbaijan Television, editor at the "Mir" Interstate Television and Radio Company (1997-1998), editor-in-chief at the Azerbaijan Cinematographers' Union (1998-2002) and secretary of the Board. He began his literary activity with the stories "A Summer Evening" and "Storekeeper Dadash" published in the "Ulduz" magazine (1976). Since then, he has been actively publishing poetry and prose in periodicals. He has translated classical Russian poets. His works have been translated into foreign languages. He is the author of stories, short stories and poetry books such as “Morning Train”, “Forgotten Meeting”, “Ocache”, “Road”, “The World is Not Worthy of the Eye”, “Believe in My Eyes”, etc. He has composed songs for more than a thousand poems. He was awarded a diploma from the USSR Ministry of Culture and the All-Russian Theater Society for successfully translating I. Karajale’s drama “The Lost Letter” into Azerbaijani (1983). He is currently the secretary of the Board of Directors of the Union of Cinematographers of Azerbaijan.

Laureate of the “Humay” Prize (2000), Honored Artist (2005). He was awarded the orders “Shohrat” (2020) and “Sharaf” (2024).
