Azad Shukurov (Azad Shukur) was born in the Muganli village of Aghdam. He studied at the Acting Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1977-1981, Rza Tahmasib's course).

During his high school years, he was an active member of the amateur art circle. Later, he joined the People's Theater operating under the Khatai Palace of Culture.

After graduating from the institute with honors, he was an actor of the Lankaran State Drama Theater for a while (1981-1984). Later, he worked at the Teaching Theater (1984-1990), the Shusha State Musical Drama Theater (1990-1992), and the Baku Municipal Theater (1992-2009).

Since 1990, he has been a teacher at the Department of Stage Speech of the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts. For a while, he was the head of the department (1996-2002, 2015-2022). Currently, he is the head of the Department of Musical Theater Actor.

He has published up to 20 scientific articles in periodicals, newspapers and magazines, and monographs.

He is the author of the program “Speaking on Television” (1990), the program and methodological instructions on the subject “Speech Technique” (1998), and the program and methodological instructions on the subject “Speaking on Television” (2006).

He works in literary and drama programs, dubbing, and is a recitation master.

He was awarded a gold medal at the 1st Tehran International Comedy Festival held in Iran (2003). He was awarded the 3rd degree “Labor” Order. He is a professor, Honored Artist (2002).
