Arif Guliyev was born in the city of Ali Bayramli (now Shirvan). In 1952, he was placed in an orphanage. He studied at the Drama and Film Acting Faculty of the Baku Cultural and Educational Technical School (1965-1968), and the Musical Comedy Acting Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1973-1979).
He began his career as an actor at the Mingachevir State Drama Theater in 1965. He worked at the Musical Comedy Theater (1975-1993), the National Drama Theater (since 1993), and for a while at the Yerevan State Azerbaijan Drama Theater. Since 1988, he has been the artistic director of the Private Satire Theater.
He is a laureate of the “Humay” (1993), “Golden Dervish” (2006), “Zirve” (2012), and “Senatkar” (2014) awards.
Honored Artist (1989), People's Artist (1993) Arif Guliyev passed away in 2021.
