Anvar Abluj was born in Beylagan, originally from South Azerbaijan.

He studied acting at the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1964-1968) and directing at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) (1968-1973).

Since 1993, he has been teaching directing at the Republican Art Gymnasium.

He has also worked in the field of dubbing.

He is an Honored Artist (2006).

Director Anvar Abluj is the brother of actor and director Hasan Abluj.
