Antonio Vivaldi was born in Venice.
He was known by the nickname *Prete Rosso* ("The Red Priest") due to his red hair. His father, a professional violinist, was his first teacher. His works influenced the development of music worldwide. He is the creator of the solo instrumental concerto genre. He composed 94 operas (19 of which are known) and 465 instrumental concertos—including *The Four Seasons* cycle, one of the earliest examples of programmatic symphonic music—among other works.
The Italian composer, violinist, conductor, and educator Antonio Vivaldi died in 1741 and was buried in Vienna.
