Alexei Lezhnyov was born in Baku.
He performed at the Rostov Drama Theater Studio (1932–1934), the Tbilisi State Russian Drama Theater (1934–1937).
Since 1938, he has been an actor at the Azerbaijan State Theater for Young Spectators.
He was also engaged in pedagogical activities.
