Movlud Suleymanli (Movlud Balakishiyev) was born in the village of Gizil Sharq, Kalinino region of Armenia.

He studied at the Philology Faculty of Azerbaijan State University (1962-1967).

He worked as an editor in the Literary Drama Editorial Office of the Azerbaijan State Television and Radio Broadcasting Committee (1968-1974), a screenwriter at the “Azerbaijanfilm” film studio (1974-1976), head of the Prose Department of the “Ulduz” magazine (1976-1980), head of the Prose Department of the “Azerbaijan” magazine (1980-1992), and deputy chairman of AzTV for radio (1992-2009). He began his literary career in 1964 with the poem “My Hands” published in the “Azerbaijani Zhanli” newspaper. He is the author of numerous books. Laureate of the “Golden Pen” Prize of the Azerbaijan Union of Journalists (1974), laureate of the All-Union Literary Competition named after Maxim Gorky for his first book published in Russian in Moscow (“Shepherd Ibrahim and the Bicycle”) (1983), “Golden Spike” Literary Prize of the Azerbaijan Union of Writers “For the best work dedicated to rural life” (1991), “Araz” High Literary Prize for achievements in the field of fiction and documentary journalism (1995), “ANASAM Award” for the best work of the year for the novel “Migration” (Turkey, 2001), was awarded the Takdir Award of the "Anatolian Literature" conference.

Honored Artist (2003), People's Writer (2006), laureate of the "Shohrat" (2018) and "Sharaf" orders, Movlud Suleymanli died in 2024.
