Jahangir Novruzov

Jahangir Novruzov was born in Baku.
He studied at the Directing Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Institute of Arts (1971-1976, Mehdi Mammadov's course).
He defended his diploma thesis by preparing the operetta "Mother of My Beloved" (G. Khudayev) on the stage of the Musical Comedy Theater. In the same year, he began working at that theater by appointment. In 1979, he was appointed as a production director at the Sheki State Drama Theater. He also played many roles as an actor on the stage of this theater. In 1981, he was admitted to the Faculty of Management of the Institute of Advanced Studies of the USSR Ministry of Culture and at the same time began an internship at the Moscow Malaya Bronnaya Theater under the direction of A. Efros. For two years, he worked as an assistant in the productions of many works. In 1983, he returned to the Sheki State Drama Theater. In 1984, he was accepted into G. Tovstonogov's creative laboratory and participated in studies in St. Petersburg twice a year until 1988. In 1985, he was appointed as the chief director of the Sheki Theater. In 1987, he won the first prize at the theater festival with the play "Monsieur Jordan and Dervish Masteli Shah". In 1989, he was appointed as the chief director of the Musical Comedy Theater. In 1990, he was appointed as the chief director of the Russian section of the Young Spectators Theater. In 1991, he won the first prize at the "I Mono Plays Festival" organized by the Union of Theater Workers of Azerbaijan with the play "To Live or Die", based on the play "Hamlet" (Shakespeare).
In 1995, he was invited to the Republic of Turkey to teach. Currently, he is a professor at the Department of Performing Arts of the State Conservatory of Çukurova University in Adana, Turkey.
He was awarded the “20th Anniversary of TURKSOY” jubilee medal (2014), the “Haldun Taner” prize of TURKSOY (2015), the “Honored Cultural Worker of Kazakhstan” medal of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Kazakhstan (2016). He is an Honored Art Worker (2011), People's Artist (2018).
Actor, director Jahangir Novruzov is the son of actress Nasiba Zeynalova.
